3rd in Kelowna

Another tournament behind us.  We arrived home with 3rd place medals.  Congrats girls!

Bats were working as Danica Kump scored her first ever over the fence home run.  Jess Ginter continued to pound the ball to the fence, even clipping the tape along the fence top and dropping back inside – keep it up Jess.  Nicole Ratel had another 2 home runs. Batting practice with Dave at the PowerZone is paying off.

The infield was tight and the outfield solid.  More double plays from Jess McLeod to first shut down the other teams.  Our fielding is a great support to our 3 pitchers, Jaymie White, Amanda Duffield and Megan Shurey – all who work so hard.

Even after cracking her cheekbone in Vegas, Lauren Iverson stands solid at third with some blinding throws to first.  Danica lost her cool just a bit after being mowed down at second, but that didn’t stop her from making her spectacular second base catches.

Paige Rutledge used her cannon of an arm on numerous occasions to both Alexandra Carl and Nicole Ratel for outs at home.  Rebecca Morgan caught most everything heading her way in right field.

Injuries to Katie Young, Erin Frinskie and Lauren Iverson didn’t even slow our girls down.

Everyone fought hard with great results.  On to White Rock and the Pride and Power Tournament next weekend.

Spring Classic

Well Done Ladies!  Working together, you brought home silver.

As the weekend progressed you supported each other and bonded into a very strong team.   The final game against the White Rock Renegades proved you can do anything you set your minds to.  In the past the Renegade team has been a formidable foe.  Yes, we did lose, but there were some amazing hits and the fielding was fantastic.

Keep up the great work!

Valentine’s Day Blast – Day 2

Our day started strong with a 6-3 win over the Washington Thunder.  The win placed us in the Winner’s pool.  Danica Kump started the day with a great triple and the batting continued with Katie Young hitting a single, Nicole Ratel scoring her second home run of the tourney, Megan Shurey with a double and Paige Rutledge bring her home with a line drive down third.  Jaymie White stepped into the pitcher’s circle and threw a fantastic game, with 2 innings of 3 up, 3 down.  Our fielding was excellent with 11 catches, 4 in left field, 3 in center field, 2 at 3rd, 2 at short.  Another great game.

I’m not sure what to say about our final game.  I’m sure most of us wish it hadn’t happened.  We played the Lil Rebels, who are state champions.  They hit everything we threw at them, including Ivy.  We all wish Lauren Iverson a speedy recovery!  Nicole Ratel managed to hit a double and the outfield spent lots of time sprinting.  Megan Shurey and Amanda Duffield did a great job pitching and Alixx Carl was solid behind the plate.  The Lil Rebel are a very good team.

Great start girls, it’s going to be an exciting season!

Valentine’s Day Blast – Day 1

Great start girls!

A 6 – 0  win over the Coville Tribe started the day off right!  Jess Ginter pounded the ball into the outfield for her first home run of the season.  Way to go Jess.  Megan Shurey pitched a very solid game.  Nicole Ratel snagged 2 pop flies at the plate and then threw to2nd to a very well positioned center fielder, Katie Young for a double play.  Paige Rutledge had a most spectacular catch in left field.  Even Coville cheered.  The bats were hot and the girls got off to a great start.

The battle continue with the Nevada Lightning from Reno.  A close game finishing at 6-3 for the Lightning.  Again our bats were strong.  Nicole Ratel rocked it into the outfield for her first home run of the season.  Another double play this game.  Follow this!  Bunt, 3rd base, Erin Frinskie to 1st, Jess Ginter for the out, 1st to catcher, Nicole Ratel, catcher, to Katie Young, center fielder, at second who chased the girl down the line throwing to Erin, back on 3rd – out!  Way to work together girls.  Jaymie White pitched a great game with Amanda Duffield stepping in to finish off.

Our bats stayed hot for our third game of the day.  All that batting practice with Dave Paetkau at the Powerzone Academy is paying off.  Jess Ginter connected solidly and scored another home run.  Lauren Iverson, Megan Shurey and Jaymie White also had very solid hits into the outfield.  Unfortunately, this team was a very strong defensive team and even though we could pound them out, they could catch them.  Amanda Duffield pitched a very solid 4 innings and Megan Shurey stepped in to finish the game.

Valentine’s Day Blast

And the season starts!

After months of indoor practice, the Fraser Valley Fusion 94 team is on the road.  Las Vegas, here we come.

The Valentine’s Day Blast Tournament runs Saturday and Sunday.  The link here shows the games for Saturday.  17 teams are competing in the 18U Bracket.

All our Saturday games are at West Flamingo Park.  Our games are at 11am on Diamond #5, Diamond #6 at 2pm and Diamond #5 at 5pm.

Click the link for a map.

This is the start of what will be sure to be an intense year for the team.  Everyone is psyched and excited to be on the field.   Several of the girls have played in Vegas before and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Of course, as parent’s, we’re just looking for a few days out of the rain to relax and watch our girls do what they love.
