Fusion advances to Nationals

We’re in Winnipeg.  Who would have thought?  Sure there is tons of talent on the team, but first year teams in a division generally do not see a national championship. Nevertheless, we landed in Winnipeg this afternoon and are here for a week of ball.

17 teams from across Canada are here.  It promises to be a fun week.

Here is a link to the website, for scores, stats and even some live game feeds.

Troy Landerville from the Langley Advance published this article about the Fusion team last week.  Thanks Troy!

The Fraser Valley Fusion 94 fastpitch team is headed to the Canadian national championship.

The 13-girl squad battled hard against 12 other teams to earn this spot.

The local girls play in the U19 loop and, as junior members of this division, had to beat several senior teams for the honour.

Four teams from B.C. will compete at nationals. They include the Richmond Islanders 93, the Surrey Storm 93, the Victoria Devils 94 and the Fusion 94.

Lauren Iverson, Danica Kump, Jessica MacLeod, Jessica Ginter, Megan Shurey, Nicole Ratel, Katie Young, Paige Rutledge, Rebecca Morgan, and Jaymie White have been playing with the Fusion for several years, and this was very evident during qualifying competition.

Joining the team this year was Alexandra Carl, Amanda Duffield, and Erin Frinskie, who rounded out the squad and were key additions to the team.

The national fastpitch championship is a weeklong tournament, and this year takes place mid-August in Winnipeg.

Canadian Open Fastpitch Tournament

Starting July 11th, we will be playing with the best of the best from Canada and beyond. There are 36 teams competing in our division.

Game times are available here and listed on the schedule page.

We would like to welcome Cassidy St. Croix back to the team. She has stepped in to help out with catching as Nicole Ratel is going to play with Great Britain Junior National Team. We wish both girls all the best.

4th in Beaverton

All the girls played very well over the weekend. It’s great to watch them come together and work so hard.

5 games on Sunday and then a 6 hour drive was rather intense, but well worth the time and effort.

It was great to see 3 of the 4 teams in the medal rounds from Canada.

Go Canada Go!

On the the Canadian Open!

Beaverton Valley Invitational

We’re off to Beaverton, Oregon this weekend.

For some of our girls, it’s a long drive and an early start in the recruiting camp that precedes the tournament.

We’ll be playing in Division 1 in the tournament.  Stayed tuned for game times and locations.

3rd in Kelowna

Another tournament behind us.  We arrived home with 3rd place medals.  Congrats girls!

Bats were working as Danica Kump scored her first ever over the fence home run.  Jess Ginter continued to pound the ball to the fence, even clipping the tape along the fence top and dropping back inside – keep it up Jess.  Nicole Ratel had another 2 home runs. Batting practice with Dave at the PowerZone is paying off.

The infield was tight and the outfield solid.  More double plays from Jess McLeod to first shut down the other teams.  Our fielding is a great support to our 3 pitchers, Jaymie White, Amanda Duffield and Megan Shurey – all who work so hard.

Even after cracking her cheekbone in Vegas, Lauren Iverson stands solid at third with some blinding throws to first.  Danica lost her cool just a bit after being mowed down at second, but that didn’t stop her from making her spectacular second base catches.

Paige Rutledge used her cannon of an arm on numerous occasions to both Alexandra Carl and Nicole Ratel for outs at home.  Rebecca Morgan caught most everything heading her way in right field.

Injuries to Katie Young, Erin Frinskie and Lauren Iverson didn’t even slow our girls down.

Everyone fought hard with great results.  On to White Rock and the Pride and Power Tournament next weekend.

Spring Classic

Well Done Ladies!  Working together, you brought home silver.

As the weekend progressed you supported each other and bonded into a very strong team.   The final game against the White Rock Renegades proved you can do anything you set your minds to.  In the past the Renegade team has been a formidable foe.  Yes, we did lose, but there were some amazing hits and the fielding was fantastic.

Keep up the great work!
